Cat Vaccines:

Kittens should be vaccinated against:

1. FVRCP Combination Vaccine (Panleukopenia, Calici and Herpes)

2. Rabies

3. FELV*

The FVRCP vaccination should be given every 3-4 weeks starting when your kitten is 6-8 weeks old and continuing until they are 16 weeks old. Rabies is given at 16 weeks of age.

*Cats and kittens that are allowed outside should also be vaccinated for Feline Leukemia (FELV). The FELV vaccine is initially given twice 3-4 weeks apart starting when the kitten is at least 11 weeks old.

All cats and kittens new to a household should be tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). These are diseases that cause suppression of the immune system and can be spread to other felines. The FIV/FELV test is very simply and only requires 3 drops of blood. The results are then ready in 10 minutes.

Dog Vaccines:

Puppies should be vaccinated against:

1. DHLPP Combination Vaccine (Distemper, Adenovirus, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza)

2. Rabies

3. Bordetella*

The DHLPP vaccine should be given every 3-4 weeks starting when your puppy is 6-8 weeks old until they are 16 weeks old. Rabies is given at 16 weeks of age.

*Those spending time at boarding kennels, grooming shops or other high risk environments should also be vaccinated against Bordetella at 16 weeks. The Bordetella vaccine is the best method there is to prevent infectious tracheobronchitis, also known as kennel cough.
