Arthritis

OSTEOARTHRITIS is a painful disease that affects a dog's joints. It is the most common cause of pain in dogs. In fact, one in five adult dogs suffers from this condition. Some of the signs associated with arthritis include; reluctance to climb stairs, difficulty jumping, stiffness after exercise, limping, difficulty rising, sitting or squatting to eliminate, loss of appetite or changes in behavior.

Some dogs are at greater risk of developing arthritis. If your dog is over the age of 5, inactive, overweight, is a large breed or has prior joint injuries, you may consider talking to us concerning arthritis care.

There is no cure for arthritis, but early detection and management can reduce pain and improve the quality of life. At Alamogordo Animal Hospital, we tailor a protocol specifically for your dog. We will discuss dietary changes to suit your pet. We offer a broad range of medications to help alleviate pain and medications to help lubricate joints.
If you would like further information on arthritis or would like to consult with a Veterinarian about your pet, please contact us.
