There are many ways for your pet to be exposed to disease-causing organisms. Healthy appearing animals can spread viruses and bacteria. You can unknowingly carry disease-causing organisms to your pet on hands, clothing, or shoes. When such exposures occur, your pet's immune system needs to be prepared. Vaccinating your pet as recommended, can help protect it from illness or death.
DOGS
Puppies: We recommend a combination vaccination including Parvovirus and Distemper to be given every 3 weeks starting at 6 weeks of age until 16 weeks of age. Bordetella vaccine, which is a vaccination for kennel cough, is also recommended during this period. Rabies vaccine will be given when your pet is 16 weeks of age. We also deworm your puppy on 2 visits. It is best for your puppy to start on heartworm prevention before 6 months of age. Spaying or neutering your dog is done as early as 6 months of age.
Adults: We recommend a yearly exam, during which your pet will be checked thoroughly by a veterinarian for any health problems, have a heartworm test if necc, and be vaccinated with a Parvo/Distemper combination vaccine, Rabies vaccine, and Bordetella vaccine. If you board or have your pet groomed regularly, it is recommended to have a Bordetella vaccine every 6 months.
Senior dogs: We recommend having a veterinary exam to best determine the care needed for your pet. This may include labwork to monitor kidney, and liver values and it may include regular dental work. We will work with you to give your senior pet the best care available.
CATS
Kittens: your kitten needs vaccines for the upper respiratory diseases starting at age 6-8 weeks and every 3-4 weeks until it is 16 weeks of age. It is recommended to have your kitten tested for Feline Leukemia and have vaccines for leukemia also. We do a Rabies vaccine when the kitten is 16 weeks of age. We also have FIP and FIV vaccines available and will discuss if these vaccines are necessary in your kitten. Spaying and neutering your kitten can be done at 6 months of age. If you would like declawing, we recommend this at the same time of spaying or neutering. We utilize a laser procedure for declawing, which decreases healing time and pain involved in declawing.
Adults: Your adult cat will receive annual vaccines including the upper respiratory disease vaccine and Rabies (also available in 3-year vaccines). Your cat will also receive boosters on any of the other vaccines such as Feline Leukemia, FIV, and FIP. Your cat will also receive an exam to check for other problems that may arise.
