WE ARE AN AAHA ACCREDITED HOSPITAL!
Earlier this year, Pikesville Animal Hospital underwent the process of obtaining accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association. As you all know, we are always working hard to improve upon ourselves to help to provide you and your pet with the best care possible. This starts from within our walls. We take great pride in our hospital, our staff and the services we provide in order to maintain our own standard of care. Obtaining this accreditation is just another huge step in being able to continue to deliver the highest level of care.
Just wanted to take a moment to explain what this accreditation means to us and how it helps to benefit the Pikesville Animal Hospital family.
Most obvious question you may have - What is the American Animal Hospital Association? Easiest to explain straight from their mission statement:
AAHA was created in 1933 to help create a standard of practice/excellence for companion animal hospitals in the US and in Canada. To become accredited, hospitals undergo regular comprehensive evaluations by AAHA veterinary experts who evaluate the practice on approximately 900 standards of veterinary care. The Association also develops other publications and educational programs and resources designed to help companion animal hospitals thrive. The AAHA membership philosophy is team-focused, allowing every hospital staff member, from veterinarians to receptionists, to benefit from AAHA’s resources through one group membership. Today, over 3,700 practice teams (12-15 % of all veterinary practices in the United States and Canada) are AAHA accredited.

In January we began to go through the extensive checklist provided by AAHA to help determine where we stood and what we had to do to help to ensure we would pass inspection without a hitch. There was an enormous sense of pride being able to check off so many things that were on a very long list – things we already do/incorporate into our daily practices. When inspection day came in July, we were so very proud to be able to stand with confidence as the two representatives toured the hospital and observed our practice in motion.
