  • Carey Zumpano
    DVM
    Diplomate American Board of Veterinary Practitioners

    Dr. Zumpano received his veterinary degree from the University California at Davis in 1996 and completed an internship in surgery and emergency medicine at California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles. During his internship he pursued additional training in endoscopy. After completing his training, he worked in general practice and emergency medicine in Southern California.

    Medical Director
    Dr. Covert started her veterinary career as a veterinary assistant/technician for 13 years working in various general practices and specialty hospitals in Maryland and Georgia before returning to school to pursue her true passion of becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

  • Rachel Hughes
    DVM
    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Rachel Hughes grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. After receiving her bachelor's degree in biology from University of North Carolina- Wilmington in 2011 she traveled up north to Canada to complete her Doctorate of Veterinary at Ontario Veterinary College. Once completing her studies there, she decided to escape the cold and finally moved back 'home' to Maryland.

  • Dana Mazur
    RVT
    Practice Manager

    Dana initially had an interest in animal care prior to starting college. After college, life took her towards a successful career in software engineering. With time, she decided she wanted to pursue her original love. With the support of her husband she returned to school and earned a degree as a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2006. Dana has been with Pikesville Animal Hospital since its opening and has been instrumental in leading the nursing staff. Dana has participated in RAVS (Remote Area Veterinary Services), a spay/neuter program through the Humane Society of the United States. The program took her to Bimini and Inagua where she worked with a team of RVT’s, veterinarians, and veterinary students help animals in need that typically would have no veterinary care or services. Dana lives with her husband, daughter, son, and her dogs, Mr. Flakers and Tank.

  • Jessica Twomey, RVT
    Surgical Coordinator
    Jessica is a native of New Jersey and has lived in Maryland for 7 years. After graduating from college with a business degree and working in the banking industry, she knew she that needed a more rewarding career. While dog walking and pet sitting, she decided working with animals was her true passion. In 2011, she joined the Pikesville Animal Hospital team, where she has since enjoyed gaining knowledge and skills in the veterinary profession. This has reinforced her decision to make the career move. She currently lives in Baltimore County with her husband, daughter, and her rescued Labrador mix, Salty.
  • Allison Kalkstein, RVT
    Lead RVT

    Allison is a native of Baltimore and has always had a passion for nature and conservation. She majored in Organismal Biology and Ecology at Towson University, graduating in December of 2010. Afterward, she interned at the World Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis, Missouri for 5 months. Allison also spent two summers in Sheridan, Wyoming, researching the breeding biology of the Mountain Bluebird and the Tree Swallow. She started her career in veterinary pet care in 2012 and a year later joined the Pikesville Animal Hospital team. She lives in Towson with her daughter and dog, Indy.

  • Kelly Lane, RVT
    Nursing Staff

    Kelly is a native of Baltimore but in her earlier days, lived in California and Nebraska. Because of her strong family values, she returned to Maryland in 1998 to be close to her family again. After returning and settling back in, she decided to follow her passion for animals. She graduated in 2002 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician. Kelly joined the Pikesville Animal Hospital team in 2014 for our Wellness Clinic. Although she's only here a couple hours each week running our Wellness Clinic, she keeps busy at her other jobs. She has been working full-time with the animals at Johns Hopkins University since 2008; and, teaching for CCBC's Veterinary Technician Program since 2004. In addition, she also fosters greyhounds with Greyt Exceptions Greyhound Rescue. Kelly is also kept very busy cheering on her daughter, Kiera- a Field Hockey player at Shenandoah University, and her son, Kilian- a soccer/baseball/martial arts/lacrosse player. She lives in Middle River with her 'Harley husband', Jeremy, their tripod pittie (Mela); burn victim pittie (Roo); and, 2 full-brother greyhounds (Grande and Hendrix)... plus 3 cats, a lovebird, a tortoise, 2 box turtles, 2 snakes, a horse and 'Mr. Guinea Pig'. Yes, she has a full house and a heart full of animal love.

  • Taryn Blonder
    Nursing Staff
    Taryn is an Owings Mills native with 10 years experience in animal care. She managed an animal rescue group for 5 years and founded Fur Love Of Paws, a non profit feline rescue group, in 2008. Prior to joining Pikesville Animal Hospital she worked in a cat hospital for 3 years. She has a strong interest in feline behavior and methods of better handling of cats and promoting relaxation in stressful situations. Although she has a strong connection with cats, she loves all animals. She lives with her dog Nemo, several cats, some of which are her own, and the others are foster cats that are waiting for their forever homes.
  • Melissa Miller
    Nursing Staff

    Melissa is a Maryland native who started her career in Veterinary medicine in 1997. Melissa started in an emergency clinic working overnights and then transitioned to a day practice in 2007 when she started her family. Melissa lives in Glen Burnie with her husband, son, labrador retriever, and three rescue kitties. Melissa joined Pikesville Animal Hospital in 2015 and will continue to help strengthen the special relationship between clients and their fur babies.

  • Ashley Eick
    Nursing Staff

    Ashley is a New York native and has been working as a veterinarian technician in the Annapolis/Baltimore area since 2005. With a background in emergency and critical care, Ashley loves bringing compassionate comfort to all of the patients at Pikesville Animal Hospital. Her passions include surgery and focused care of hospitalized patients. When not at work or school, Ashley enjoys hiking, boating, live music, and enjoying life with her partner and handsome cat.

  • Chrissy Mohr
    Inventory Manager & Administrative Manager

    Chrissy is a native of Baltimore and has over 18 years of experience working in veterinary hospitals. Prior to joining Pikesville Animal Hospital she was the hospital manager for Banfield, The Pet Hospital in Towson. Chrissy has been with Pikesville Animal Hospital since its opening, helping to manage the front office. Chrissy currently lives in Lutherville with her husband and daughter.

  • Megan Hayes
    Nursing Assistant

    Megan has always felt a strong bond with animals. She took her first veterinary position as a kennel assistant at a clinic in her home town. That experience furthered her passion for veterinary medicine and love for rescue dogs. She joined Pikesville Animal Hospital in 2014 with aspirations of becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician. She currently lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, Clayton, and their son.

  • Rosie
    Rosie aka 'Boss Lady' joined our team in the Fall of 2014. She spends her days at the hospital napping between lunch shifts, and occasionally greeting clients at the front desk.
