Dr. Richard Baer

Richard Baer began work in private practice after graduating from UC Davis Veterinary School in 1984. He has worked in the San Francisco bay area and San Diego prior to founding Del Mar Heights Veterinary practice in 1990.

Dr. Baer and his wife have raised three sons in the Carmel Valley area, along with their two golden retrievers, Christy and Molly, and three cats: Frisky, Hazel and Smokey. While not working he enjoys skiing, biking and running.


Dr. Kathy Heiss

Kathy Heiss completed her undergraduate degree at UC Davis, and graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She began work at Del Mar Heights Veterinary Hospital in 2003.

She is raising two children with her husband. She also has an 8 year old border collie, Ellie, and a 9 year old black and white cat, Pinky.

Dr. Lara Garman

Lara Garman grew up in Elkhart, Texas.  She completed her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas A&M University - Kingsville in 2002 and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 2006.  Dr. Garman served in the U.S Army Veterinary Corps as a veterinarian from 2006 – 2013.  While on active duty, she was in charge of a military veterinary clinic, responsible for the veterinary care of the military working dogs, deployed to the middle east, performed food sanitary inspections on commercial food production facilities and provided veterinary care for the Navy Marine Mammal Program.  Dr. Garman worked for the National Marine Mammal Foundation providing veterinary care the Navy’s dolphins and sea lions in San Diego from 2013 - 2017.  In 2017, Dr. Garman decided to expand her small animal knowledge and completed a one year rotating internship at VCA California Veterinary Specialists in Carlsbad.  Dr. Garman and her husband live in Clairemont with their two cats, Turbo and Clea.  While not working, she enjoys reading, hiking, scuba diving and spending time with her husband and kitties.
