Dr. Russell Cain is a native of Jackson, Mississippi. He completed his undergraduate studies at Florida International University in Miami in 2000 and received his doctorate of veterinary medicine from Kansas State University in 2011. Following graduation, he went on to work for a high--volume, no--kill animal shelter in Kansas City. There he was able to hone his surgical skills as well as well as provide as second chance for many homeless, less-fortunate animals. Dr. Cain then moved into private practice with a premier small animal hospital located in Kansas City, MO. This opportunity enabled him to focus on internal as well as preventative medicine. Additionally, Dr. Cain has provided emergency and critical care for several area emergency and referral centers in Kansas City.
Dr. Cain's particular interests lie in emergency medicine/critical care, surgery, internal medicine and pain management.
Dr. Brianna Berkey is originally from Maryland and Pennsylvania with an extensive background in small scale dairy and beef farming. She started working in the veterinary industry as a technician through high school and undergrad. She completed her undergraduate studies at University of Pittsburgh in 2016 and received her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Kansas State University in 2020. After graduation, she started out in a mixed animal veterinary practice in Garnett, Kansas. Her career interests include surgery, general wellness, and internal medicine. In her free time, she enjoys hunting, fishing, camping with friends, and training and spending time with her two dogs, Kimber and Nelli.
Jenny Cain is the Practice Manager and administrator for Deer Creek Animal Hospital. She is a native of Jackson, MS, and has extensive experience working in a veterinary hospital. She has worked in all positions ranging from vet tech to receptionist to human resources to office manager. When not organizing the day-to-day activities of the hospital, Jenny enjoys spending time with her family, going to Sporting KC games, cooking and reading.
Jenny and Dr. Cain live in Overland Park with their 3 sons, 3 dogs and their cat.
JoAnna Keeler - Office Manager / Veterinary Technician
I’ve been working at Deer Creek Animal Hospital since June of 2015. Since I was little, I’ve always had a passion for making animals feel better and I feel so fortunate to be able to do so now. Since starting at Deer Creek I have been lucky enough to be able to work my way up through multiple positions and learn so much along the way. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats of my own that I love very much. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, being outdoors, and spending time with family & friends.
Shonna Robbins - Veterinary Technician
Shonna graduated from Brown Mackie with an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology. She spends her day in the exam room assisting the doctors, running lab work, filling medication, placing IV catheters, monitoring surgery patients and much more. Shonna has always loved animals and currently has 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and pets.
Dani Smith - Lead Veterinary Receptionist / Veterinary Assistant
My name is Dani & I’ve been working at Deer Creek Animal Hospital for about a year & a half now. I started off as Receptionist & then I moved to Kennels as I wanted to be more connected with the animals that come into our clinic. Now, I switch between both positions which is the best of both worlds! I absolutely love caring for the pets that come in & out of our clinic & forming relationships with both the pets & the clients. Life is just simply not the same without pets. I have two dogs myself, Cooper & Ellie, who are both rescues. They mean the absolute world to me! Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, staying active, & enjoying time with friends & family.
James (Jim) Wallace-Groomer
James (Jim) Wallace, started his grooming career in 2003 as a dog bather for Petsmart in Wichita KS. He then went onto grooming school in Blue Springs MO in 2005 and has continued to study and practice since. He has experience with all breeds and styles and has preformed over 10,000 grooms. " I consider myself a practical groomer with an attention to detail, a deep respect for safety and providing the best possible experience for the pets and clients.
