A SEASON OF THANKS…

A SEASON OF THANKS…

This time of year gets crazy.  Family and friendly get-togethers, holiday decorating and shopping, travel.  It’s easy to forget the meaning behind Thanksgiving and Christmas and to take time to slow down and appreciate the good in our lives.  This month, I’ll stray away from the usual veterinary topics to share just a few things that I am grateful in my position here at Dogwood.

To begin with, I am thankful for you, our loyal clients.  I am inspired every day by the stories (many of which are not pet-related) of perseverance and strength I hear from you.  So many of you have managed personal and family difficulties with grace, and I appreciate your trust in allowing me to share in your victories.  I also believe we have the most amazing pet parents you could ask for.  Your unwavering trust in all of us here is so humbling.  I am so glad to be able to serve as an advocate for not only your pet but for you in decisions regarding your pets’ health.  You are all so involved and well-educated, it really makes our job easy, and I thank you for that.  It sounds cliché, but Dogwood would truly not be the same without our fantastic clientele.

Secondly, I could not be more thankful for our amazing team at Dogwood.  From the client service representatives to the technicians and assistants, to the kennel technicians watching over every pet like they are their own, to our managerial staff which watches the day-to-day operations to ensure we are efficient and well supplied.  Dogwood is a machine of moving parts, and each part is critical to our daily operations.  I am blessed to come to work for a group of people that have become my second family and I am proud to stand beside every person here.  Not many people can say that.

Finally, I am grateful to have the privilege of practicing veterinary medicine.  This is an amazing time to be a vet.  The innovations in medicine over the last 20 years are astounding. To be able to positively affect pets’ lives in ways that were not previously possible is so energizing.  There have been so many strides made in improving both the quality of life and the length of comfortable life for our animals that it is not uncommon to see pets in their late teens.  By continuing our journey towards preventative medicine, we hope to carry on this trend and give our clients more and more time with their beloved pets.

In closing, I encourage each of you to slow down and enjoy the season.  There is so much good out there, and by surrounding yourself with it and fostering kindness to others, we can carry on the holiday feeling year-round!!
