Temporary bad breath can simply indicate that your cat ate something that disagreed with her. However,  a persistent foul odor is often a sign of disease. In fact, it can be a symptom of serious illness.

Gingivitis and gum disease are the most common causes of offensive feline breath. Plaque buildup and rotting food stuck between teeth or under gums can create foul odors. Abscesses or polyps in the nasal passages are other culprits. Another common cause of bad breathe is Stomatitis, which is inflammation and ulceration of the mucous membranes in the mouth. Oral exams can help us catch mouth conditions in their earliest stages, consistent dental care can prevent gum disease. 

Bad breathe can indicate serious problems. These include gastrointestinal issues, sinus or lung infections, diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, and oral cancer.
