How can we keep our aging pets healthier longer? Early detection of disease! If we can find problems early, we can slow down some health issues or possibly eliminate them. How do we find disease in our senior pets?
1) Bloodwork: This helps us to evaluate your pet's kidneys, liver, blood sugar, and protein levels. It also shows us if your pet is anemic or wrestling with infection.
2) Urinalysis: Many kidney problems and other diseases can be found early by checking for sugar and protein in the urine. We can also check to see if your pet can concentrate the urine.
3) X-rays: We can look for organ size and shape and evaluate for signs of cancer and other diseases.
4) Tonometry: This is an eye test for ocular pressure. Glaucoma, for example, results in increased pressure. We measure the pressure with a hand-held device called a tonometer.
5) Ultrasound: We can see inside the organs to detect small abnormalities and can also measure the size and shape of the organs.
Our Senior Wellness Package bundles the bloodwork, x-rays, urinalysis, and tonometry into one discounted package, with the option to add ultrasound. Let us know if you have any questions about how to keep your pet healthier, longer!
