Scary movie? Think again. Arthritis is a real problem among our senior pets. Many owners may not see the signs because pets-especially cats-try to hide their discomfort.

Who is affected? Dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, reptiles-in other words, anyone with joints.

What is arthritis? Arthritis is a chronic degeneration of the joints that leads to cartilage and joint fluid loss and bone remodeling.

Is it painful? Yes!

What causes arthritis? Trauma or injury; joint infections; obesity; tick borne diseases; autoimmune disorders; inherited conditions; and the natural aging process.

What should you watch for? Stiff, swollen, painful joints; reluctance to jump, walk, run or climb stairs; changes in sitting or laying posture; limping; avoidance of petting; or changes in behavior.

What can we do about arthritis? Unfortunately, there is no cure. But, we can slow it down and help with the pain! A group approach works best.

Fortunately, we do have many options. Please contact us about any medication your pet is using; some pets don't tolerate certain types of medications. We must fine-tune the treatment for your pet's specific needs.
