What is Spay & Neuter?

Spay & neuter is surgically removing the reproductive organs in an animal. Spaying is removing the reproductive organs of a female animal, such as the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Neuter is surgically removing the reproductive organs of a male animal, the testes.

What are the Benefits of Spay & Neuter?

The most prevalent benefit is reducing unwanted pregnancies and litters. This keeps stray animal populations down.

There are many health benefits to spaying or neutering your pet. With female animals, there is less of a chance your pet will develop breast cancer and uterine infections. Its best to get your pet spayed before their first heat to avoid these health issues. You also don't have to worry about your pet going into heat.

For male animals, there is less of a chance of your pet developing testicular cancer when they are neutered. A neutered dog or cat will also be tamer and calmer than a non-neutered animal. A neutered male is less likely to wander away to find a female, and you don't have to go through your pet marking their territory by urinating everywhere.

Aggressive behaviors will also be reduced and even eliminated if your pet is neutered early enough in life.

When Should I Get my Pet Spayed or Neutered?

To avoid unwanted health issues and behaviors, it’s better to get your pet spayed or neutered early on, but an animal can safely get these surgeries performed at any stage of life with great outcomes.
