Protect Your Pet from Heartworm Disease - Here's How

April is Heartworm Awareness Month

This April, take the following steps to make sure your pet is properly protected against this deadly, yet preventable parasite:

  • Check with your veterinarian to see if your dog has been tested for heartworm disease within the past year - if the test is overdue, schedule an appointment to have it updated.
  • If your pet is currently on heartworm prevention, verify that their current weight is still within the weight range listed on the preventative - if it's not, your pet may not be properly protected.
  • Is your cat on heartworm preventative? Indoor or Outdoor, all cats should be protected from this disease by being on year-round prevention.
  • Make sure that your heartworm prevention has been purchased by a verified distributor. Historically, there have been many cases of counterfeit heartworm prevention sales through third-party markets. Check to make sure your pet's prevention is legitimate.
  • Get the facts: Stay educated. Visit www.heartwormsociety.org to learn more about heartworm disease in pets.
