March 2020 Pet of the Month

Diva Pandora (Panda) Canine POTM  March 2020

Diva Pandora

Panda is a middle-aged Pomeranian that was significantly overweight. Panda’s owner was interested in weight loss for Panda’s long-term health and mobility. Panda was started on a prescription weight loss diet called Satiety. It is formulated to make the pet feel fuller on less food. Panda’s owner started to diligently measure the food amounts to promote weight loss. Over the last year Panda has steadily lost weight. She is continuing to work toward her goal. Panda’s owner has been diligent, and it is paying off. Weight loss can be difficult to achieve, but commitment to the goal can pay off. As dogs and cats age they are less apt to have a multitude diseases and arthritis if they are leaner during the aging process. Panda is an ongoing success story and that is why she is our canine Pet of the Month.

Muffin Feline POTM  March 2020

Muffin

Muffin is a sweet kitty that enjoys both indoor and outdoor living. Last month, the owner was notified by their neighbor that they saw Muffin hanging from the fence in the back yard. She had tried to climb over the fence and got her leg caught between the panels. It was the perfect storm!  Muffin was stuck and was unable to free herself. Thankfully, her owner was able to rescue her and brought her in for an exam. She did have a small fracture of her lower right leg and a whole lot of swelling. The blood and nerve supply had been compromised to the hind leg. She was not able to move her leg and did not appear to have feeling in it either. She was treated with antibiotics and pain medication.  We also treated her with our K-laser therapy. This is a cold laser that helps to minimize swelling, increase blood flow, decrease pain and increase antioxidants to the affected area – exactly what Muffin needed! We were not certain she would ever be able to use her leg again. If, in fact, she did have permanent nerve damage, the leg would require amputation. Her owners were diligent in caring for her with passive range of motion and continued K-laser therapy. Over the next couple of weeks, she was able to walk around, use the leg and started jumping on the bed again! We were so excited that she would not lose her leg from the injury! We are honored to share her story as our feline Pet of the Month!
