Why does my veterinarian take my pet back to the veterinary treatment room?
It can be a bit unsettling when your pet is removed from your presence by the veterinarian or technician and taken to the treatment room, radiology or ultrasound room. First off, please know that at Birdneck Animal Hospital you can always request that treatments be done in your presence. We are always willing to do whatever we can to make you and your pet happy and more comfortable during your visit.
Your pet is usually taken to the treatment room, though, for a number of very good reasons. Often, this allows the veterinarian to have some quality time with you to discuss your pet’s condition and to answer your questions, while the treatments are being performed by the very qualified hospital staff.
Another reason is for the safety of your pet, yourself, and the hospital staff. Your pet needs to remain still for many procedures such as injections, skin scraping, and ear flushing. Almost every pet behaves better away from his or her owner. Additional staff members ensure your pet is comforted and held safely for the treatments. Some areas of the hospital such as the X-ray room and the ultrasound room are off limits to clients for their safety and by state law.
Also, some of the procedures, such as ear flushing can be quite messy. We want to keep the exam room in good condition for the next client and patient that are waiting to be seen.
And lastly, allowing the treatments to be done where all the equipment is kept for those procedures, and while the doctor speaks with you or writes up the file helps to expedite your visit and prevents us from wasting any of your valuable time.
Your pet is always treated safely and with love. In fact, if you don’t want him or her to get any of the tasty treats we keep on hand, it would be wise to let the veterinary assistant know ahead of time!
At Birdneck Animal Hospital we make all our decisions based on what is best for your pet. Remember, we are always willing to do whatever we can to make you and your pet happy and more comfortable during your visit.
