My name is Amy, and I am a veterinary assistant and receptionist at Birdneck Animal Hospital. Last summer (Summer 2011), my husband and I started talking about adopting a dog. We knew we had limitations due to our work schedules and living space, so we began researching breeds. Based on our lifestyle, it seemed a rat terrier would be the breed best suited for us, but until recently, we didn't feel we were in the best position to truly provide everything a pup would need. In late February, I found a rat terrier rescue group called Ratbone Rescues and put an application in on a few different ratties. The application/adoption process took about 3 weeks (which felt more like 3 years) and on March 18th, we brought 3-year old Hazel, now Ginny, home. We already have 2 cats, one who has lived with dogs previously and one who has never seen one in his life, so naturally we were concerned about how everyone would get along. To see them today, you'd think they have lived together since they were born. Ginny has seamlessly moved right in and made herself comfortable (especially on the back of the couch). Like any little girl, she already has my husband wrapped around her little paw. Ginny is undeniably the most perfect little dog we could have asked for and has been well worth our wait.
