- Heartworms are worms that live in the heart. They can live for 5-7 years causing a lot of damage.
- They are spread through the bite of a mosquito.
- All states have reported heartworm disease, however, it is worse in the warmer, humid states where mosquitos thrive.
- This disease is seen in Dogs, Cats, Ferrets, Skunks.
- Dogs should be tested yearly.
- Keep your pet on heartworm prevention all year round.
