Anesthesia

We at the Fountains of Boynton Animal Hospital realize that anesthesia causes concern for many pet owners. It is our top priority to ensure that our anesthetic procedures are as safe as possible, and we utilize the latest technology and advancements to ensure that your pet's procedure is as safe as can be.

  • Every patient undergoes pre-anesthetic blood testing, to check for underlying illness that may not be obvious.
  • A pre-anesthetic sedative helps to reduce your pet's anxiety or nervousness.
  • An intravenous (IV) catheter is placed prior to anesthesia, which allows us to administer fluids during the procedure to ensure proper hydration and blood flow to the internal organs.
  • Our anesthetics are widely regarded as extremely safe - and are used routinely in humans undergoing anesthetic procedures. Proper pain medications are used when needed.
  • During the procedure, we will monitor all of your pet's vital signs - heart rate, heart rhythm, blood pressure, blood oxygen level, body temperature, and respiratory rate.  By closely monitoring these parameters, we can quickly react to any changes that may take place.
