Written Prescription Policy

Upon request, we’re happy to provide a written prescription for any medication we recommend.

Any written prescription we provide may be filled anywhere you choose - a local human pharmacy (e.g. CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Costco), a local veterinary compounding pharmacy, or an online pharmacy.

Our best advice is to develop a relationship and comfort with one local human pharmacy.  We do not recommend using an online pharmacy.  Do your homework before using an online pharmacy, especially an online discount pharmacy or a pharmacy in another state or country.  If the price is dramatically lower than anyone else, exercise caution.

In order to maintain our focus on patient care, our written prescription policy is as follows:

• All federal, state and local prescribing laws apply as if you purchased the medication here.  We must see your pet once annually, and perform any necessary drug monitoring on schedule.

• Do not change online pharmacies monthly.  Fully evaluate one, make a choice, and stick with it so you don’t get confused or make a medical mistake.  If you don’t use Cobblestone as your pharmacy, we are often not kept as current on your pet’s medication situation as we would be if Cobblestone was your pharmacy.
• Visit https://www.fda.gov/downloads/... for help evaluating online pharmacies and educating yourself on the various ways medicines are diverted, faked, and repackaged.

• It is your responsibility to ensure the written prescription is sent, filled, labeled, shipped, and used correctly. We will not become involved in any product failures for products purchased elsewhere (e.g. fake Heartworm preventives) or medicines rendered ineffective due to improper warehousing or shipment (Phoenix is very hot many months of the year).
• Once you have chosen an online pharmacy, contact them directly and learn their procedure for securing an online order.

• Most online pharmacies require you to mail a printed and signed prescription.
  
  
• Be advised, that if a pharmacy stocks a different milligram strength or your product is sold in a different quantity, your order may not be filled.

• Plan ahead and keep enough medicine on hand so you don’t run out if you have issues with fulfillment or shipping.  Plan ahead for any trips or vacations you may take.  Make sure you have enough medication for your pet until you get back.  We will try to be as helpful as possible with an occasional oversight, but more than one oversight flags you in our system and we may not be able to refill your medications in a pinch.  Due to prescription drug abuse, this protects everyone.

• Cobblestone Veterinary Care will not approve any prescription over the phone, nor will we sign and fax back a prescription to an online pharmacy. We will contact you within 3 business days that we have reviewed your pet’s chart and a written prescription has been placed at the front desk for your pick up. That way the correct drug, dose, duration has been recorded into our medical record and you are free to do with the written prescription what you want. 

• Our written prescriptions are free of charge, but all responsibilities thereafter are yours, just as they are withyour physician.
