Following are the ways you can keep your pets safe and stress free during summer and holiday season:
- Booms and crackles of fireworks can be stressful for pets. To help your pet relax, keep them in a room with white noise. Try to distract them by playing a game or teaching a new trick.
- Check that your screens are securely place before leaving any doors or windows open.
- Keep pets away from the grill while it's in use or still hot. They can easily get burned or can knock it over, causing serious injuries to both them and others.
- To evaluate temperature of the sidewalk, press your hand on the surface for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them!
- Be sure your trash is secure and pets cannot get to bones, fat drippings, corn cobs, or alcohol drinks.
- Thoroughly examine your pet for foxtails which can cause pain, swelling, and potentially death if untreated. Don't forget eyes, ears, mouth, and especially between toes.
- Warm sunny weather brings all the critters. Stay up to date with your pet's flea and tick treatments and heartworm prevention medication.
