Things Every New Cat Owner Should Know by Terra Losa Animal Clinic in Edmonton

Getting a cat can be exciting but also challenging. New cat owners often have a lot to learn about pet ownership. At Terra Losa Animal Clinic in Edmonton Alberta, we make it our goal to smooth the transition for new cat owners in our area. Knowing how to care for your new cat in Edmonton can help you keep your pet healthy and happy.

Preventative Care Improves Your Cat's Quality of Life

Preventative medical care can help your cat stay healthy. At Terra Losa Animal Clinic, we provide regular preventative care for kittens as well as adult cats. Below are some of the preventative services your cat will need on a regular basis:

  • Dental exams and cleanings. Our dental exams and tooth cleanings can help your cat maintain healthy teeth and gums. During our dental examinations, we'll inspect your cat's teeth and gums for signs of plaque and gum disease. During the cleaning, we'll remove your cat's plaque buildup.
  • Wellness exams. During wellness exams, we'll check your pet's coat, skin, teeth, mouth, eyes, ears, nose, breathing and heartbeat. We'll also test your pet's feces and blood. Our wellness exams help us catch your cat's health problems before they become advanced. We recommend that young and middle aged cats get wellness exams once each year. For senior cats, we recommend getting a wellness exam twice each year.
  • Vaccinations. Vaccinations prevent common illnesses and deadly diseases. At Terra Losa Animal Clinic, we administer core and non-core vaccinations. Core vaccinations are recommended for all cats, regardless of their lifestyle and other risk factors. Non-core vaccinations are only administered to cats who are at risk for those specific diseases.

Spaying and Neutering Reduces Risk of Disease

At Terra Losa Animal Clinic, we spay and neuter cats. Spaying and neutering your cat can help reduce your cat's risk for certain diseases later in life, and can also prevent unwanted cat pregnancies. We highly recommend spaying or neutering your pet to help improve your cat's quality of life.

Testimonial

  • "Terra Losa Animal clinic is easily the best vet clinic I've ever brought my animals to. I'm not sure how others could have a negative experience because Dr. Smith and staff are terrific!!! My wife and I love them so much that even after moving across town to Millwoods we still refuse to take our 3 cats anywhere else. We'd rather make the drive to the west end than see anybody else. They're the best"
