Take Your Dog to Work Day
Every summer, on a Friday in June, the animal world and the human world collide. Why you might ask? Because this day is Take Your Dog to Work Day. This June 24th the office gets a little more entertaining when the dogs come to play! This day can be so much fun, and a great way for employees to bond, but it also takes consideration and planning. Here are five tips to make this day fun for everyone.
Tip #1: Come prepared
Bringing a pet into a new environment can sometimes be tricky, so making sure they have everything they are used to at home is key. Bringing things like a dog bed, toys, treats, food and water will ensure your furry friend is comfortable in the office all day long.
Tip #2 Plan Ahead
If you are wanting to bring your dog to work, but know you have a big day ahead, plan accordingly. Maybe only bring the pet for half of the day, or have someone in the office that would be willing to watch the dog for an hour while you are taking care of business! The last thing you need is for a dog to be barking in the background of an important conference call.
Tip #3 Evaluate Your Dog
Another aspect to consider before bringing your dog to the office is whether or not your dog will thrive in the work environment you are a part of. The idea of taking your dog to work is fun and we all want to do it, but we also need to think of the dog’s feelings. Will it get along with other dogs? Will the enclosed, possibly tight space with a lot of people make them anxious? Will they be able to spend the whole day inside? All of these things are important to consider before taking your dog to work.
Tip #4 Spread the Word
While most people are bound to love a day full of dogs at the office, there are those people who don’t particularly enjoy the company of dogs, and are more of cat lovers or are even allergic. It is important to make sure everyone in the office is aware of what will be going on and is okay with it happening. This day is meant to be fun and different, not upsetting to anyone in the workplace.
Tip #5 Get Involved
Once you’ve made sure everyone is okay with Take Your Dog to Work Day, get the word out! The more people that participate, the more fun not only will you have, but your dog will have too! Make a Facebook post, send an email and even make an incentive or competition for cutest dog/owner duo or best behaved dog of the day. Have fun and be creative.
Nothing is better than getting to spend the whole day with your dog, especially when you can work at the same time! June 24th is fast approaching so get your dogs in a row and start preparing for Take Your Dog to Work Day!
