Spay and Neuter

We are happy to sit with you and discuss any concerns or questions you have about the common procedure/surgery. In the meantime, read on down below to learn more about the procedures and the benefits they can provide for you and your pet.

What Is the Difference between Spaying and Neutering?

Spaying is the surgical removal of a female animal's uterus and ovaries. Neutering is the removal of the male testes. While they are different surgeries, both of these procedures make the animals unable to reproduce.

Is Spaying and Neutering Dangerous?

Spaying and neutering is one of the most common surgical procedures vets perform. While there's a risk involved when an animal goes under anesthesia, the risks are extremely low. Most vets agree that the benefits outweigh risks in most cases.

What Happens the Day of the Procedure/Surgery?

On the day of surgery, your pet will be given a pre-surgical exam to ensure he is healthy enough for the procedure. A team member will then shave and clean the area and prep your pet for surgery. During the procedure, your pet will be monitored closely and administered medication as needed.

The typical spaying/neutering takes less than an hour. Once completed, your pet will be sutured and sent to recovery where he will continue to be monitored while the anesthesia wears off.

What Are the Benefits of Spaying and Neutering?

Aside from being an effective and humane way to control the pet population, spaying and neutering will eliminate the chances of your pet developing uterine, ovarian, and testicular cancers. It also greatly reduces the chances of breast cancer. Your pet will also roam less. You're also less likely to have to deal with inappropriate urination and spraying. In a nutshell, pets that are "fixed" typically live longer, happier, and healthier lives.
