Dr. Barbra Karner is a licensed PA veterinarian, treating all types of pets. Your pets’ health and well being are very important to us, and we take every possible measure to give your animals the care they deserve.

Muddy Creek Animal Clinic is a full service animal clinic and welcomes both emergency treatment cases as well as pet patients in need of routine medical, surgical, and dental care. Dr. Barbra Karner has years of experience treating medical and surgical conditions and offering regular pet wellness care. Beyond first rate pet care, we make our clinic comfortable, kid-friendly, and calm, so your pet can relax in the waiting room and look forward to meeting our veterinarian and staff.

We are happy to offer a number of resources that enable you to learn  how to take better care of your pets. The best veterinary care for animals is good nutrition and problem prevention, so becoming knowledgeable about preventative pet care is essential to the ongoing success of your animal’s health. Our Butler veterinary office is very easy to get to --  we are located on Route 8, 3 miles north of Starlight Drive-In (formerly Pioneer Drive-In).  You can find directions below or on our Contact Us page! We also welcome you to subscribe to our newsletter, which is created especially for our pet owners.

We are currently open Monday through Friday, and one Saturday a month.  Dr. Karner does limited house/farm calls Monday afternoons, and Wednesdays. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please use our Appointment Request link and we will contact you promptly.

    Veterinarian

    Dr. Medarac is a graduate of Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has a deep passion for animal health.  At home, she is surrounded by a menagerie of pets including a dog named Amos, a cat, a bird and two horses.  Her hobbies include spending time with family, her pets, Bible study, horseback riding, dancing, and reading. Her expertise makes a difference in the lives of her pet patients, as well as their human families.  

  • Theresa Cuffin
    CVT
    Technician Supervisor

    Theresa is our Technician Supervisor and Certified Veterinary Technician.  She has been with us since 2015 after graduating at the top of her class from the Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburgh and passed her licensing exam the same year.  Her education and skills are pivotal to the excellent pet care we offer at the clinic.  Theresa lives in Volant with her family, and a beautiful bloodhound named Amos.

    Veterinary Technician

    Allison is a 2020 graduate of the Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburgh.  She is celebrating her second year with us and we are glad she joined our team.  Our clients appreciate her quiet and calm demeanor when handling their pets.  We appreciate her great education and practical training.  Be sure to say 'Hi' next time you see her in the clinic!  

  • Serena Johnston
    Receptionist/Groomer

    Serena is the smiling face that greets you in the front office.  She provides our reception as well as grooming services for our patients.  She has a kind and friendly way of giving excellent service.  Additionally, she has over 25 years of experience in the veterinary office; and is a life-long resident of the Butler area.  Be sure to say hello when you are at the front desk!

  • Carrie Altman
    Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

    Carrie is the friendly voice you hear on the phone.  She also assists our support staff around the clinic. Her love for animals runs really deep.  Carrie’s pets include two cats named Fat Boy and Max, as well as a German Shepherd named Dakota.  She loves adventure and the outdoors.  Her favorite pastime is going to zoos or any adventure with her son, Logan.  We are excited to have her on our team!

    Administrative Assistant

    Dawn is from Slippery Rock and lives with her husband, dogs, cats, horses and chickens.  Dawn is a credentialed Approved Veterinary Assistant and loves helping pets in our community.  She is Fear Free Certified 2022/2023.  Her organizational skills help our office run smoothly, and she enjoys a problem-solving challenge.

  • Emily Browne
    Technician

    Emily Browne is a recent graduate of the Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburg, and a native of the Butler area.  She has known her whole life she wants to work with animals.  Years ago, she took the family cat to the hospital where they showed her around and explained the roles of veterinary technicians.  This was the first step in identifying her career in the vet-med industry.  Emily is looking forward to taking her licensing test and gaining some experience with exotic animals.  Recently she's provided a home to a new German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois puppy (pictured).  We enjoy having Emily at Muddy Creek Animal Clinic - she brings a smile to everyone!

  • Ivie Scott
    Kennel Assistant

    Ivie is a 4-H alumni and an active part of the Moniteau FFA program which includes students who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more.  She has two dogs at home who are at opposite ends of the size spectrum; Paco (a Chihuahua mix) and Xena (a Great Dane).  Her other pet is a cuddly cat named Gary.  Ivie is active in showing and marketing Boer goats at local fairs.  Her favorite part of working at Muddy Creek Animal Clinic is being able to share her passion and love for all kinds of animals.  In her spare time, she is studying the Veterinary Technician program through Penn Foster Distance Learning Program.  Keep your eye on Ivie – she is going places!
