Pet Dental Care From Our Solana Beach Veterinarian

At Academy Animal Hospital, our veterinary team offers the quality services your pet needs to lead a healthier life; one of the many services we're able to provide in our office is pet dental care. When was the last time your pet had a dental exam and cleaning? If it's been more than a year or so, then it's time to schedule an appointment with one of our experienced and compassionate veterinarians.

Your pet's dental health is just as important as any other aspect of his/her health and wellness. In fact, if your pet's oral health is neglected, it may manifest itself in other ways throughout your pet's body. For example, did you know that pets with gum disease are more likely to have heart problems and other health issues? Sadly, many pet owners don't realize the importance of dental health and, as a result, their pets may suffer in silence from issues like tooth decay, missing teeth, cracked teeth, and gum disease.

In addition to seeing our veterinarian for routine dental care, pet owners are also encouraged to care for their pets' teeth at home by brushing or wiping their teeth as often as possible. There are also products, such as dental treats and wipes that can help to improve your pet's oral health between cleanings.

How We Can Help

Fortunately, our experienced  veterinarians can provide the dental care services your pet needs throughout all stages of life. For routine dental care, we recommend annual dental exams and cleanings as needed. These exams are ideal for assessing your pet's overall dental and oral health; with these exams (which can include X-rays), we take a comprehensive look at your pet's teeth and gums to look for signs of cavities, gum disease, and other problems that need to be addressed. From there, we can make recommendations for further treatment that may include additional cleanings, fillings, extractions, and the like.

We can perform most dental treatments right here in our office, and are done under sedation or anesthesia to ensure that your pet is as comfortable as possible. If needed, we will also perform any pre-treatment blood work, which can help us determine that anesthesia is safe for your pet.
