When should I take my pet to the animal hospital?

Trouble Breathing

If you notice that your animal is suddenly having trouble breathing, they need to get to the vet right away. Don’t wait for this one, especially if their lips are puffed out.

Weakness/Collapsing

When your pet suddenly collapses due to weakness, it could be pointing to a larger issue. Common instances of collapsing are internal bleeding, cardiac conditions, or an organ malfunction.

Vomiting/Diarrhea

On occasion, our pets may vomit once or two or have a small case of loose stool. However, if the vomiting and diarrhea persist, this is grounds for a medical emergency. Common instances of vomiting and diarrhea are gastrointestinal issues.

Loss of Muscular Control of Back Legs

Short breeds like Dachshunds and Corgis often have this issue. Because they are long and short, their spinal cords are more vulnerable. The paralysis may come on very suddenly, but can be treated quickly by an emergency vet.

Major Traumas

If you know that an animal has been hurt by a car, fallen, or any other major injury, bring them in immediately. There is no need to wait when you see a visible injury.
