Dr. Porter

Dr. Wayne Porter - Owner

Dr. Porter joined BVH in June 2005 after graduating from Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary  Medicine with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.  After 8 years at BVH, he took over ownership in January of 2014.  He is a member of the RVVMA, VVMA and AVMA.  Dr. Porter’s special interests are surgery, general  practice and building relationships with clients and pets.

Dr. Porter loves the mountains and people of Southwest Virginia.  He currently lives in Botetourt with his wife, Kristi, and two daughters, Haleigh and Addison.  The family has one yellow lab named Biscuit.  When not  practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Porter enjoys being outside and working on the farm, playing golf, watching college football and VT Hokie sports.


Dr. Muse

Dr. Yvonne Muse - Staff Veterinarian  

Dr. Muse received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984 and has been taking care of BVH clients and patients for 15 years.  She is a member of the AVMA.  Dr. Muse’s special interests are internal medicine, laser therapy and ophthalmology.

Dr. Muse has been a longtime resident of Botetourt County.  She and her partner, Don, have three furbabies, Uno, Viva and BC.  She has two adult children.  When she is away from the office she enjoys gardening, kayaking and exploring spiritual endeavors.



Dr. Stewart

Dr. Stefanie Stewart - Staff Veterinarian

Dr. Stewart joined the BVH family in 2007.  She received her Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science from Lynchburg College prior to attending Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.  She graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.  She is a member of the RVVMA, VVMA and AVMA.  Dr. Stewart’s special interests are senior medicine and preventative care for small animals.  She also has interests in small  exotics and animal nutrition.  Dr. Stewart is also certified in Fear Free techniques. 

Dr. Stewart lives in Roanoke County with her husband, Doug, and three sons, Devon, Connor and Daxton.  They also have 3 cats, an Akita and an African Cichlid tank.  Dr. Stewart loves the mountains and changing seasons of Virginia.  In her downtime, she enjoys spending time with her family, breaking out into random songs and embarrassing her kids with corny jokes.


Dr. Miller

Dr. Kristen Miller - Staff Veterinarian

Dr. Miller joined the BVH family in the summer of 2016.  She received her Bachelor’s of Science with a minor in Chemistry before proceeding on to Vet School.  She attended Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2010.  She is a member of VVMA and AVMA.  Dr. Miller’s special interests are soft tissue surgery, behavior, nutrition and preventative medicine.

Dr. Miller lives in Salem with her husband, Scott, and three children, William, David and Elizabeth.  The family has 3 cats and 1 dog.  They love to vacation in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee where they enjoy the mountains and being outdoors.  Dr. Miller is an avid Cowboys and VT Football fan!


Dr. Brummer

Dr. Tyson Brummer - Staff Veterinarian

Dr. Brummer joined the BVH family in July 2020.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2004 and then a Master of Science in Biomedical and Veterinary Science from Virginia Tech in 2007. He graduated with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 from Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.  Dr. Brummer also completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VMCVM in 2014. He has worked in the Roanoke valley since that time. He has special interest in all aspects of internal medicine, particularly in endocrinology and cardiology, as well as a developing interest in acupuncture and other facets of Eastern medicine. 

As the newest member of the Botetourt Veterinary Hospital team, he hopes to quickly demonstrate his ability to collaborate and implement the best medical plan for every pet that comes into our practice. He has lived in Botetourt County since 2014 and in his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife, 6 children, and 3 cats. He particularly enjoys doing a mediocre job teaching the kids to throw a baseball, shoot a basketball, and catch a football in the backyard.


Dr. Richard Bailey - Relief Veterinarian

Dr. Bailey graduated from Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987 with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.  He is a member of the RVVMA, VVMA, AVMA and the VA Food Animal Academy.  Dr. Bailey currently serves as a Relief Vet for BVH, working as needed and filling in when other Doctors are unavailable.
