Our Doctors
Barbara Sheffield, D.V.M.
Dr. Barbara Sheffield earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in 1984. Her ethic and dedication placed her in the Phi Zeta Honorary Society.
Dr. Sheffield has owned and worked at several practices in Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. She served as a relief veterinarian throughout Hampton Roads networking and building her strong reputation throughout the area.
Along with her love for small animal medicine, Dr. Sheffield is also an avid equestrian breeder, trainer and hunter-jumper competitor. She and her horses have been awarded multiple International Hunter Futurity and National Championships. Dr. Sheffield and her husband David, as well as their three adult childrenand three grandchildren live in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach.
Lisa Hundley, D.V.M.
Dr. Hundley brings much enthusiasm and over 25 years of clinical experience to our practice. As a native of Virginia Beach, Dr. Hundley throughout her career has developed a client/patient bond with many friends and associates. She enjoys surgery, internal medicine, and making her patients "feel good again." She is a wonderful asset to the team and we are very fortunate to have her.
Dr. Hundley lives in Virginia Beach with her family (Joe, Ian and Sophie), their dog Lucy and many fish. Her hobbies are spending time with her family at the beach, camping, surfing, reading and cooking.
Our Veterinary Technicians
Lisa, LVT
Lisa has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 1984. She is married and has two grown sons. In addition to her human family, she also has 4 rescued animal family members; 2 dogs, Bria, a Collie, and Sophie, a Foxhound, 1 cat named Dog Dog (yes, you read that right,) and a king snake named Oreo. Lisa became a grandma in 2018 to a little boy they call Eddie :)
Brooke, LVT
Brooke just recently joined our team in February 2019. She has a bachelor's degree in Psychology from JMU (2014) and a veterinary technician license from Blue Ridge (2018). At home she has a long-haired black cat named Nala, a 3 year old boxer mix named Toby and a new puppy, Luna. She loves reading, writing and doing crafts. In her spare time, she makes bandannas for our new patients and also enjoys making natural bath products. In the future, she hopes to expand her knowledge in animal rehabilitation.
Janet, LVT
Janet recently re-joined our team after a little hiatus. She has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 1986. She has two Boston Terriers, Betty and Frankie as well as a parrot and lots of fish. Janet is the life of our party! She is also a certified Equine Sports Massage Thearpist since 2003.
Our Veterinary Assistants
Taylor
Taylor, a native New Yorker, moved to Virginia Beach in 2014. She has worked in vet med since 2017. She loves the outdoors; kayaking, bike riding, baking and crafting her own home decor. She has an open addiction to Target and Amazon Prime. Taylor has two cats: Sasha, a Siamese, and a black cat, Jovie, who live with her and her modern family. Taylor and her fiance David, a retired Marine, were engaged on New Years Eve 2018. David has an (almost) 8 year old daughter, Lillian, who is Taylor's apprentice in shopping, baking, good music and all things art. Taylor loves 90's nostalgia and is a die-hard Queen fan. Taylor is our cat whisperer, and can calm even the most nervous fur baby.
Rayna
Rayna is a certified veterinary assistant who literally brings her work home with her. She has been fostering dogs from Island Dog Rescue for over 3 years and has 3 dogs of her own; Dexter, Jaxson and Maisy. Rayna enjoys spending her spare time out at the barn with her horse or on a motorcycle in the warmer months. She has been working in veterinary medicine since 2014 when she moved here from Oregon and cannot see herself doing anything else. She loves the German Shepherd breed and is always the first to take on the appointment when she sees one on the schedule.
Kelly
Caite
Caitlyn aka Caite has been working as a technician since 2012. Her and her family moved to Virginia Beach in 2017 from the outskirts of Chicago, Illinois. She has a 4 year old daughter, Maddie and a 6 year old son, Caleb. Her and her husband Matt have been married since 2013. She has 2 Huskies, Maxi and Tala as well as 2 cats; Mittens and Boo. When Caitlyn isn't at work or school she is doing fun outdoorsy activities with her kiddos!
Administrative Assistant
Emily
Emily is an "outdoors" type of gal and enjoys camping. She has a very busy home life: a husband, Jay, a daughter, Meredith, their son, Bruce and three cats; Tootsie, Rumpel and Wendy. Emily just added a cocker spaniel puppy to her family!
