Working With High School Students

Is your high school student interested in a career in the veterinary field?

We often hear kids say that they would love to work at Town & Country Veterinary Hospital, but how can your son or daughter determine whether this is their true career path before they head off to technical school or college? The answer is the Tri-Valley Regional Occupational Program (ROP) available through local area high schools. The ROP program is an excellent way for your high school student to spend some school periods doing hands-on learning in an actual veterinary hospital.

Town & Country has been working with the ROP program since 2011, and we enjoy sharing the energy, curiosity, and excitement these students bring to our hospital. Some outstanding students have been hired to work in the Pleasanton Pet Hotel when their ROP rotations were completed, and two former ROP students are now pursuing their D.V.M. degrees at the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

One of our ROP students, Sophie, was interviewed by Jessica Aguirre of NBC Bay Area News Channel 11. Click the link below to watch Sophie and Dr. Dossey with an acupuncture patient, and see what Sophie had to say about her experiences with the ROP program.
