You and Your Pet in Quarantine

With it being a strange new world out there, what we need now more than ever is love, support, and routine. This goes without saying that it applies to our furry friends as well. Animals are hypersensitive to our emotional state; when we're not feeling well or when we're stressed, they're always coming to our side to make sure that we're okay. We need to make sure that we're keeping normalcy for our pets as well.

Assure that we are still taking them out on their walks while maintaining social distancing. You may want to keep them a little more brief than usual. If possible, go to areas that you know are less likely to be traveled by others and their furry family members. Remember to stock up on necessities that we will need for our furry friends as well, such as kitty litter/pee pads, food, and possibly medications.

I have a Chihuahua named Commander William T. Riker and a cat named Felix. I am continuing to take Riker for his walks twice per day (morning and night). My window is open at home to get more fresh air since the walks are not as long as usual. I have stocked them up on toys so that if they become uninterested in one toy then we can introduce them to another one. Multiple stores and clinics do not have enough stock of food right now, so I have pre-stocked their food with multiple flavours to keep them enticed.

One good thing about quarantine is that our pets get to have us all to themselves for the next little while, so everybody stay positive, hang tight, and keep safe!
