Perfect Fall Getaways

Perfect Fall Getaways by Teresa

Fall is my favourite season. The weather is perfect and the colours are beautiful. I take advantage of both by going on hikes and long walks in nature. And of course I take my dogs along with me. There are so many dog friendly places in Ontario where you can enjoy the outdoors and see the Fall colours. Here are a few of my (and my dogs’) favourite Fall Getaways.

High Park

You don’t have to leave the city to enjoy the serenity of nature. Toronto’s High Park has tree covered walking paths that make you forget you’re in the middle of the city. The park features one of the city’s largest off leash dog areas. You can enjoy the scenic colours while your dog roams around freely. The park also has a zoo and a restaurant with an outdoor patio where your dog can join you for lunch.

Dundas Peak

Just a short drive from Hamilton is Dundas Peak, a look out point you can see the whole town of Dundas from. In the Fall the view is a spectacular arrangement of colour and nature. The hiking trails that lead up to the peak will take you past Webster’s Falls and Tew’s Falls, two magnificent water falls. You and your dog will enjoy the hike to the peak and if you plan your trip right. you will even see a train pass along the edge of the town beneath you.

Restoule Provincial Park

What better way to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday then visiting a provincial park? If you enjoying heading up north to see the leaves changing colours then visit Restoule Provincial Park. There are many trails to hike on (the most popular being the Fire Tower Trail), and if you’re dog enjoys a cool dip in the lake there is also a pet friendly beach.

Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain is best known for their winter activities but it’s fun to visit in the Fall too. You know all those now covered tress you see while skiing? They make a gorgeous back drop as they turn colour in the Fall. There is also a pet friendly hotel so you can take your along with you. The Blue Mountain Inn (https://www.bluemountain.ca/plan-your-trip/lodging/blue-mountain-inn) will provide your dog with a comfy bed and treats!

Whatever you decide to do this Fall, have fun and stay safe. Make sure to send us your pictures of you and your furry friend enjoying the season.
