Protect Your Pet With Microchipping

Pets are curious animals. While they can be trained to listen to your instructions, it won't always prevent them from bolting after a dear or getting lost on a hike.  That is why it is so important to protect them with a microchip. Microchipping is a safe and effective way to identify your pets should they ever become lost or recovered by an animal control facility. Trying to find your pet if they have gotten out is not easy, and we understand how stressful it can be. Having a microchip increases your chances of getting them home quickly.  It is especially important to have a chip in case of evacuation due to wildfire.

Microchipping Is Safe and Easy

The process of microchipping your pet at Crow Hill Veterinary Hospital is safe and easy. The chip itself is about the size of a grain of rice. This chip is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. Contrary to popular belief it does not serve as a GPS. It actually serves as a means of permanent identification. Each chip has a unique number which will be associated to your personal information when registered. While it is always best to have identification tags on your pet, there may be times when the tags get lost or your pet slips out of his/her collar. The chip can be easily scanned by a vet’s office or humane society (where many pets end up when they escape). They can then look up your information and contact you. It is important to keep your information up to do date, for this reason.
