Allergy Awareness 

If you notice your pet sneezes a lot, your pet might have allergies. However, sneezing isn't the only symptoms of allergies. Your pet might wheeze as well. Ear problems such swollen, itching or draining ears are possible. It's possible for your dog or cat's eyes to water or itch. What You Should Know

Certain foods and even certain ingredients in pet food may cause your pet to have a reaction. Your pet might experience nausea or vomiting when they ingest a food they're allergic to. Additionally, your pet might experience diarrhea. 

Pets can have skin allergies. They can even be allergic to fleas. A pet that has skin allergies may experience itching. Your pet might bite his or her paws or excessively scratch his or her ears. Your pet might lick more than usual in an effort to soothe the itching. Recurrent hotspots tend to occur in dogs. A hotspot is a place for your pet that will feel hot to the touch for no apparent reason. Your pet might have scabs, hair loss or crusting of the skin.

Common Allergies

Although it's possible for a pet to be allergic to many substances, certain allergies are more common than others. Animals may have both indoor and outdoor allergies. Seasonal allergies are possible in pets. Your pet might sneeze or wheeze from tree and weed pollen. Some pets are allergic to grass or mold. It's possible for a pet to be allergic to feathers, cigarette smoke, flea control products or plastic or rubber items. Some animals are allergic to beef, pork, corn, wheat or soy, so if you notice sensitivity to any of these, you should change foods immediately and seek out the assistance of a veterinarian. Your pet might be allergic to certain medications. Some of the products you use such as perfumes and cleaning products can bother your pet. You might find that your pet gets itchy from the fabric of his or her bed or even your furniture. 

What a Vet Does

For food allergies, the vet will put the pet on a specific diet. You might be given an epinephrine pen for emergency situations. Oral and topical medications may be given.
