What to Expect At Your First Animal Clinic Visit in Orlando and Sanford FL

A new puppy or kitten brings a lot of love and a lot of work. That's why we recommend scheduling a veterinary hospital appointment within 48 hours of adoption. Here's what to expect at your first animal clinic visit in Orlando and Sanford FL.

At your first hospital appointment, we will do a dental examination and check for common kitten and puppy problems, such as worms and ear mites. We will advise a feeding schedule, set up a vaccination schedule and discuss when your animal should be spayed or neutered. If dental problems do arise, our hospital is equipped to provide full cleanings and extractions under anesthesia. At every vet appointment, we encourage you to ask any questions you have about your new pet or about our services.

• Vaccinations: Maintaining a vaccination schedule is vital to prevent deadly diseases, including distemper, bordetella, parvovirus, and rabies in puppies, and rhinotracheitis, calici, panleukopenia (distemper) and rabies in kittens. In both puppies and kittens, the first series of vaccinations begins at 6 to 8 weeks and continues until 16 weeks of age. Boosters are given yearly.
• Grooming: Grooming your animal at a young age helps him become comfortable with the process. Regular brushing promotes a healthy coat and prevents mats in long-haired animals. If your animal won't sit still for nail trims or requires a haircut, schedule an appointment with our on-site groomer.
