Congratulations on your new kitten!  We recommend the following vaccinations and wellness examinations for the newest member of your family:

  • 8-10 weeks—Thorough wellness examination and the first set of distemper (FVR-C), leukemia (FeLV) vaccinations, and an initial deworming with Pyantel Pamoate.  On occasion we will separate these shots by a few days if your kitten is smaller in size.
  • 12-14 weeks—Your kitten should have a booster of both the FVR-C and FeLV vaccinations as well as a follow up deworming.
  • 16-20 weeks—Your kitten will receive his or her first Rabies vaccination.

If you are going to spay or neuter your kitten, we recommend that you do this at 6 months of age.  These surgeries are being done at much younger ages at different facilities but we feel strongly that your pet will have an easier time with anesthesia if they are older, and the recovery is often much smoother with fewer complications.
