To protect your pet from contagious diseases, keep his or her essential vaccinations up-to-date. This is important even if your pet is kept mostly indoors. Many contagious diseases are airborne and your pet could easily be exposed through an open window.  There is also a risk that your pet could accidentally slip out the door. Boarding kennels, dog parks, grooming salons and even hiking trails are all areas where your pet is likely to be exposed to contagious diseases so be sure to talk to us before taking your pet to any of these places.

Pet vaccinations, like those for humans, may sometimes require a booster to keep them effective. It is also important to keep in mind that vaccinations take 7-10 days to become effective.

Vaccinations that We Recommend for Your Dog

• Distemper Hepatitis Leptospirosis Parainfluenza Parvovirus (DHLP-P) Commonly called the “distemper shot”.  This combination vaccine protects against the five diseases in its full name.
• Rabies:  Rabies virus is fatal and all mammals, including humans, are susceptible to infection. Rabies vaccinations for dogs are required by law in most states.
• Bordetella (commonly called "kennel cough") Bordetella causes an extremely contagious upper respiratory infection. We recommend this vaccine be given to your dog before going to a dog park, groomer, boarding kennel, doggie daycare or dog show.

Vaccinations that We Recommend for Your Cat

• Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Calicivirus (FVR-C) Commonly called the “distemper shot”, this combination vaccine protects against multiple infectious feline diseases.
• Feline Leukemia (FeLV)  FeLV can be transmitted from infected cats when the transfer of saliva or nasal secretions is involved. If not defeated by the animal’s immune system, the virus can cause diseases which can be lethal.
• Rabies:  Rabies virus is fatal and all mammals, including humans, are susceptible to infection. Rabies vaccinations for cats are required by law in most states.

To help you keep your pets vaccinations up to date, we will be holding our annual dog and cat vaccination clinic on Saturday May 3^rd from 8:00 to 12:00.  All dog and cat vaccinations will be discounted and as in prior years, no appointment is necessary. 

Even though your cat might be fine around dogs, not all dogs are comfortable around cats.  To avoid an unhappy meeting, we request that you bring your cat in a secure pet carrier and keep your dog on a leash.
