Cheryl Adams, DVM, CVA, CCRT, CVSMT
Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist
Dr. Cheryl Adams has also joined our practice as an integrative specialist. Dr. Adams received her Bachelors in 1984 from Iowa State University and her DVM in 1988 from Iowa State Veterinary Medical College. After graduation she worked in general practice, emergency medicine and practice management in the Chicago suburbs. In 1990 she developed a special interest in alternative and eastern medicine and began integrating both with Allopathic or Western Medicine. In 2000 she joined a 24 hour specialty referral practice in Illinois as the Director of the Integrative Medicine and Rehabilitation department working alongside oncologists, surgeons, critical care specialists, internists, dermatologists, neurologists and ER doctors to treat hospitalized and referral cases from surrounding hospitals and Veterinary schools. In additional to her DVM she is certified in Acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS), rehabilitation by Canine Rehabilitation Institute (CRI), Spinal manipulation by The Healing Oasis, animal chiropractic by the American Canadian College of Animal Chiropractors. She also has certificates in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Herbal Medicine, and has attended advanced courses in acupuncture and herbal medicine along with courses in homeopathy and applied kinesiology (AK) Dr. Adams lives with one domestic long hair cat who is 16, and two mixed breed dogs.
Lori Hartzband, DVM, DAVCR
Dr. Hartzband graduated with honors in biochemistry at Harvard University, and obtained her veterinary degress at Cornell University in 1983. After three years in small animal practice in New York and Massachusetts, she completed radiology training at Tufts University, and became board certified in 1989. Following her certification, she served as staff radiologist at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, a busy small animal specialty and teaching hospital in Boston, MA, and later also at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in Weymouth, MA. Although she enjoys all aspects of veterinary diagnostic imaging, Dr. Hartzband particularly enjoys and has extensive experience in diagnostic ultrasound. She lives with her dog Rae and her cats Louie and Little. When not working, she likes to hike, run, do yoga and travel the world.
Carrie (Van De Wiele) Ginieczki, DVM, MS
DACVIM (Specialty of Cardiology)
Carrie received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University. She then went on to a small animal internship at the Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Following her internship, Carrie completed a combined cardiology residency and Masters program at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University. Immediately following her residency, she achieved board certification in the discipline of veterinary cardiology through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
During her time at Purdue, Carrie was thoroughly trained in echocardiography, the clinical discipline of veterinary cardiology and catheter-based techniques that offer minimally invasive options at correcting congenital heart disease. She has also performed research and published articles related to many aspects of veterinary cardiology. Topics she has covered include therapy for Atrial Fibrillation, anticoagulant therapy and pacemaker patients. Although she enjoyed her research, she is much happier pursuing her primary interest of helping family veterinarians and pet owners diagnose and treat their pets with heart disease. She has a special interest in the clinical treatment of Congestive Heart Failure, Congenital Heart Disease and Electrophysiology (including the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias).
Carrie is enjoying living in Summit County with her husband Rob, dog Hailey and cat Sophie. She does her best to take advantage of all that the beautiful state of Colorado has to offer.
W. Preston Stubbs, DVM, DACVS
Dr. Stubbs is a native of Jamestown, New York and grew up in norther Virginia. He earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences from George Mason University in 1985 and received his DVM degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. Dr. Stubbs received his internship training at Cornell University and completes a residency in small animal surgery in 1994. He is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. After a year as a clinical instructor in surgery at the University of Florida and 2 years as an instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Massey University in New Zealan, Dr. Stubbs moved to Denver in 2000 to join Alameda East Veterinary Hospital as a partner. He joined Animal Hospital Specialty Center in 2007, before starting his own practice in 2012 as a mobile veterinary surgical specialist. Dr. Stubbs traveling around the Denver area, performing surgery at a number of exceptional hospitals. He and his wife Laura have 5 children and enjoy living in Colorado.
David Matthiesen, DVM, DACVS
Dr. David Matthiesen is a native of Denver, Colorado. He received his Veterinary Doctorate degree from Colorado State University in 1979. He completed a rotating one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery, followed y an additional surgical internship at the West Los Angeles Veterinary Medical Group. He completed an orthopedic-neurosurgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He became a Board Certified Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1986. For 10 years he was a senior staff surgeon and section head for the orthopedic-neurosurgical service at the renowned Animal Medical Center in New York City, one of the largest and busiest private veterinary referral centers in the world, employing over 85 veterinarians. During that time, Dr. Matthiesen also functioned as the primary oncologic surgeon for the hospital’s cancer department. His main responsibilities at the Animal Medical Center included case diagnostics and surgical treatment of a varied and diverse surgical case load. He also supervised and taught interns and surgical residents and performed clinical research. On two different occasions, he was awarded the Prestigious Teacher of the Year award. While at the Animal Medical Center he published extensively or co-written over 70 journal publications and book chapters. He also lectured on numerous topics in soft-tissue surgery, orthopedics, oncology, and neurosurgery at various local, regional and national meetings.
Due to a strong desire to return to Colorado, Dr. Matthiesen established Veterinary Surgical Specialists of Colorado in 1997. His practice was closely affiliated for over ten years with the Animal Hospital Center. He also functioned as the emergency surgeries during off-hours for the emergency service. At the facility, Dr. Matthiesen continued to perform a variety of surgeries referred from the Denver area to his surgical practice. Dr. Matthiesen offers a substantial amount of experience and expertise in general, orthopedic, neurologic, and oncologic surgery with over 20 years of clinical practice as a Board Certified Surgeon.
