Meet Our Troutdale Veterinarians & Vet Team

  • Ken DeRemer, DVM
    Practice Owner

I grew up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and moved to the west coast (California) for graduate school. I graduated from vet school in 1983 from the University of California at Davis and moved up to the Portland area shortly after graduation. I started Paws and Claws Pet Medical Center as a housecall practice while building the current facility. The doors to Paws and Claws opened in 1994. In 2008 I purchased Peninsula Dog and Cat Clinic in North Portland, and I now split my time between both practices. My wife and I have 3 children: KC, Ben, and Wyatt, and currently have 1 dog, 2 cats, and a parrot. In my free time (which seems rare) I enjoy fishing and creating home-brewed beer.

  • Christina Huntsinger, DVM
    Veterinarian

I grew up in Oregon and received my undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Oregon in 1998. I transplanted to the Midwest for vet school and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003, after which I was happy to move home to the Pacific Northwest. I started practicing in Hillsboro and moved to Paws & Claws in 2007. I am proud to be an advocate for pet health and well-being. I enjoy educating clients on preventative medicine issues to improve the quality of life for both the animals and their owners. I also enjoy dentistry and managing chronic diseases such as diabetes and chronic renal failure. The majority of my free time is spent in the woods hiking, camping, and backpacking, or tending to my vegetable garden. I also am proud to be a member of the Oregon Veterinary Emergency Response Team (OVERT). We are certified by the State of Oregon to be first responders during emergencies and disasters in order to set up and care for injured or misplaced animals, and to house the pets of people who have been displaced from their homes. I have 2 cats, Basti and Fester (aka 'Fwuffy Kitten'), and a lab/border collie mix, 'Mowgli'. I treat cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, rodents, guinea pigs, and hamsters.

  • Monica Pollock, DVM
    Veterinarian

I am a homegrown Oregonian, raised in Beaverton, Oregon. I got my BS from Oregon State University, and I graduated from vet school in 1999 from the combined Oregon State University and Washington State University Veterinary Medicine program. I started practice in Beaverton, but have been at Paws & Claws Pet Medical Center since 2006. While I enjoy surgery and internal medicine, my true passion is preventative medicine and geriatric care. At home I have Kingston, my career-changed guide dog; Kitchen Lizard, my three-legged bearded dragon; and Porch, my orange tabby rescue. On my time off, I enjoy working on my house and garden, hiking, and wandering around the neighborhoods of Portland. In addition to cats and dogs, I also see birds, reptiles, and all small mammals.

  • Elaine
    Client Service Representative

A native Oregonian, I was born and raised in Portland. I have always had one or more pets in my household, ranging from parakeets to guinea pigs, to cats and dogs. I worked as an English teacher before starting my family, which now counts at four (grown) children, one grandchild, and one neurotic American Staffordshire Terrier named 'Dallas'. I worked for 5 years at another veterinary clinic in Portland, took a two year break, and started at Paws and Claws in 2004. I chose this area of work because of my fondness for companion animals, and enjoy the daily contact with our clients.

  • Kim
    Client Service Representative

I was born and raised in Kansas, however I consider Oregon my forever home. I have really grown to love the nature and all of the people that I have met. With a degree in Graphic Arts from Portland State University, and years of customer service skills I started at the clinic in November of 2010. The clients and their pets are why I love coming to work every day! I also love getting to use my artistic skills with our reminder cards and other client correspondences! My children have all grown up and gone which leaves me time for my hobbies of my many never ending art projects. I now get to watch their pets grow up since the bring them into the clinic!  At home I really enjoy knitting, making jewelry, metalsmithing, and taking care of my farm. I am a regular participant in the Gresham Art Walk and love creating new and exciting pet themed jewelry. I am also an active participant at my church. Back at my farm I have my German Sheppard “Ella”, and also take care of numerous varieties of chickens and pheasants. All of those things tend to keep me a pretty busy gal!

  • Kerri P.
    Client Service Representative

I was born and raised in Gresham, OR. Out of high school I enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, and am part of a medical detachment. Shortly after my return from training in March of 2013, I began working as a receptionist at Paws & Claws. I later became cross trained to work as an assistant, which further encouraged my love for veterinary medicine.

In 2017 I was accepted into Portland Community College's Veterinary Technician Program. I am currently a full time student and work on weekends at the front desk. I hope to graduate in 2019 and begin working as a CVT at Paws & Claws! I still aspire to one day earn my doctorate in veterinary medicine degree. I love being a part of the wonderful team at Paws & Claws, and will continue to work my way up through the veterinary professional career path! I currently have 4 cats, and if you ask me, it is not enough!

  • James
    Client Service Representative

In Spring 2007 I started working for Paws and Claws Pet Medical Center, initially as a kennel assistant, and have learned the skills to work as a veterinary assistant and receptionist. In the Fall of 2008 I started to split my time between Paws and Claws and Dr. DeRemer's other practice in North Portland, where I also work as both an assistant and receptionist. For now, I have three cats: Doom, Danger and Ayame, and a blue nose pit named Nina. I have had exotics over the years too, including: sugar gliders, mice, turtles, and fish. For fun I like playing my guitar, blacksmithing on my forge, spending time with my daughter and I also like to read, camp and cook.

  • Wendy Frame, CVT
    Certified Veterinary Technician

I currently live in Gresham, Oregon with my family which consists of my pack of cats and dogs, two fabulous children and my loving husband.  I grew up in Southern California, so I often miss the sunshine, but I do love the NW.  I have been  in the veterinary field since 2007 and really enjoy working with all animals. I'm very happy to be working at Paws and Claws which has given me a chance to expand my knowledge base to cover a wide variety of pets. I have a soft spot for french bulldogs and I also really enjoy getting to work with puppies and kittens.  I have a great passion for learning and providing my patients with the best care possible. In addition to working at Paws & Claws I also like to volunteer with the PAW Team and help foster young puppies and kittens.

  • Dalynn Rich, CVT
    Certified Veterinary Technician

I have lived most of my life in Gresham with a few years in Corvallis and Portland. I completed my undergraduate studies at Oregon State University and received my Bachelor's Degree in Zoology. I then attended Portland State Community College where I attained my Certified Veterinary Technician License. I love cooking and recently purchased a house in Troutdale where I plan to start a vegetable garden. I also adopted two crazy kittens, named Panda and Koala, who are settling into the house nicely. I joined the Paws & Claws team in 2016 and love the experience working with exotics and pocket pets. My dream job is to work with the big cats at the zoo.

  • KC DeRemer
    Management

I have been involved with Paws & Claws throughout most of life. I have always loved animals, and worked in the clinic off and on during high school. In 2005 I moved to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon. In 2010 I attained two bachelor's degrees in Business Administration and Spanish before returning to work at Paws & Claws.  At home I have a pointer/hound mix named 'Blaze' that I got from the shelter, and a fancy feline named 'BLIP'. In my spare time I love to travel, snowboard, fish, go backpacking and I am also an avid home brewer of IPA's.

  • Greddy
    Clinic Pets

Greddy joined us in 2008 after his little head got squished by a car. He was a mess, with a damaged eye and a broken jaw and teeth. We were able to fix him up with a big surgery and lots of TLC. He's been greeting clients ever since. He loves to knead bellies, tease the other clinic cats, and scream at people for food.

  • Maggie
    Clinic Pets

Maggie was brought to Paws & Claws in August of 2016. She had severe damage and ulcers on the globe of her eye, and was at risk of losing it. We created eye drops using her own blood's serum which helped it fully recover. She now runs all over the clinic being quick to steal peoples chairs. She is a little fluff ball of joy and would love to meet you, come in and say hi!
