Caring for a New Puppy or Kitten

Upon bringing home a new puppy or kitten, we highly recommend scheduling an appointment with us so we can set up your pet's first wellness exam with us. During this exam, we can get a better idea of your pet's overall health, as well as establish a baseline for future appointments. Depending on the age of your pet, we may also want to schedule his or her spay-neuter procedure (if it hasn't been done already). For most puppies, spay/neuter is recommended between six and nine months of age. For kittens, six months is generally the recommended age.

In addition to a routine wellness exam and possible scheduling of spay/neuter procedures, we also recommend bringing in your pet's adoption paperwork along with any previous veterinary paperwork you may have been provided when you adopted the pet. This paperwork will help us to get a better idea of your pet's medical history, along with any vaccinations or immunizations that have already been administered. From there, we can determine a proper vaccination schedule for your puppy or kitten.
