diabetes treatment in Troutdale and GreshamSymptoms of Diabetes:

  • Appetite changes
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urination or urinary tract infections
  • Sweet-smelling breath
  • Weight loss
  • Skin infections

If you notice any of these symptoms, we recommend that you bring your pet in for a comprehensive health screening. We can do both urine and blood work test to check for diabetes or any other underlying cause of these symptoms.

Diabetes Treatment

If caught early and properly managed, diabetes does not have to impact your pet's quality of life. Sometimes we are able to treat diabetes in pets with an over the counter medication. Simply give the pill to your pet in his or her food, and then monitor blood sugar levels to make sure everything is fine.

In many cases, you will need to perform at-home insulin injections to keep your pet healthy. We will determine the specific dosage based on pet weight, show you how to do the injections at home, and help you in any way we can.

Pets can be severely ill when initially diagnosed, especially if symptoms have been unchecked for some time. Your pet may need to be hospitalized while we get blood sugar levels under control. After this point, there is no reason he or she cannot live a healthy life at home.
