Pet Wellness Exam FAQ

The Importance of a Pet Wellness Exam

For most of us, keeping our pets healthy and safe is nearly as important as keeping the rest of our family safe. Pets are truly an extension of our families and we want to keep them feeling great through every facet of their life. Ongoing veterinary care is an important part of keeping them well. A yearly wellness exam is critical in keeping your pet healthy. At Power Road Animal Hospital, we take the health of your pet seriously. Our team will be on the lookout for possible health issues that could impact your pet if left unchecked. If you are in the Mesa area, come find out how we can help your pet.

How Wellness Exams Help

The purpose of a wellness check is to find any possible issue with your pet’s health and treat it in the early stages before becoming problematic, more expensive, and more difficult to treat. A wellness exam is the same as a regular checkup. Our veterinary clinic suggests you have at least one checkup for your pet a year. You may need to come in more frequently depending on your pet’s age and condition. At your pet’s annual check-up, we will make sure he or she is completely up to date with any shots needed. We will also check for heartworms, tooth decay, and any lumps or irregulates that may have popped up since your pet’s last visit.

We will examine your pet's eyes, ears, teeth, and gums during a wellness exam looking for any unusual growths, potential issues, inflammation, or infection. We use specialized vet care equipment to see beyond the surface and identify emerging issues. Weight is also something that we pay close attention to, particularly in breeds with a greater tendency toward obesity. It is important to note that when our animals carry extra weight, they are at risk of developing heart disease, certain cancers, and joint issues. Depending on your pet’s breed, he or she may be more prone to certain health issues than others. These are all things we can help you with at our clinic.

Preventative Actions Are Provided

There are several preventative measures provided at the wellness exam to keep your pet healthy and safe. These include the administering of vaccinations to ward off diseases, parasite prevention medication to keep away fleas and ticks, microchipping to help find your pet if he or she is ever lost or stolen, and spaying or neutering to stop your pet from accidentally reproducing. Surgical procedures will need to be scheduled at future dates. However, microchipping, parasite prevention, and immunizations are provided at the end of your pet's examination if needed.
