* Will chiropractic care hurt my pet?
If you have ever been to a human chiropractor, you know that some
adjustments can be uncomfortable, however, Dr. Ramesar tries to work
with each pet to minimize discomfort and anxiety. Many of her patients
begin to enjoy their chiropractic care over time!
* Can I be with my pet during their adjustment?
Absolutely! We prefer owners be present for adjustments, especially the
first ones, as they can be very confusing for the pet.
* What should I expect after a chiropractic adjustment?
Most pets want to sleep the rest of the day after an adjustment,
although a few may have bursts of energy because they are feeling so
good!
Especially after the first time they are adjusted some pets may be sore
for a couple days. If this is severe, lasts longer than two days, or
you are concerned about this soreness, discuss medication options with
Dr. Ramesar.
* When should I see improvement?
Dr Ramesar recommends your pet get at least 3 adjustments to determine
if chiropractic care may help them for a specific condition. Some
chronic conditions may require more adjustments to see results.
(Example: chronic incontinence can take 6 adjustments or more)
* How often should my pet receive chiropractic care?
Dr Ramesar initially determines this based on her exam (how painful they
are, how many subluxations, how severe the signs are). Generally at the
beginning, adjustments are 1-2 weeks apart. After that, Dr. Ramesar
will make maintenance recommendations for your pet based on your input
on how they are responding. This can mean adjustments every 3 weeks all
the way up to every 3 months.
* How is a chiropractic adjustment different for pets and people?
Chiropractic care is the same for any species in that it consists of
adjustments to correct subluxations, but your cat or dog has different
joint angles which require different adjustment setup. In addition,
your dog can't follow directions on how to lay the way a person does, so
most adjustments for pets are done with them standing. Pets also do not
generally have "audible" adjustments, meaning they don't have the
popping that you hear when your chiropractor adjusts you.
* Can my pet get other medications/treatments while they are receiving
chiropractic care?
This is the beauty of chiropractic care - it compliments so many other
treatments! It can improve results, help the body respond better to
treatments, and just improve overall wellbeing. Dr. Ramesar also does
acupuncture, regularly recommends laser treatment, and uses medications
as needed to help her patients feel their best! If you have any
