Skin has many different neuroreceptors. Different ones detect pressure, pain , movement, position and temperature and transmit that information to the brain. These are very sensitive, which is why we can detect a fly landing our skin! Kinesiology taping (K-Tape) stimulates these neuroreceptors to decrease pain, improve circulation, speed healing, and provide feedback to the brain. K-Tape can help "wake up" weak limbs and help the neurologic system remember connections between different body areas and the brain.
Reasons to use K-Tape:
- Muscle weakness
- Intervertebral disc disease
- back pain
- painful limbs
- lameness
- stiff legs
- decrease bruising
Pets generally tolerate K-Tape very well. It should be left on for as long as it will adhere to the fur. That could be only 30 minutes for 4 or more days. Your pet can still swim with K-Tape on. If it needs to be removed, gently ruffle the fur around the K-Tape and it will gently fall off.

K-Taping is a great adjunct to many therapies, but Dr Ramesar uses it commonly in conjunction with chiropractic care or acupuncture. Please call us at 254-690-6769 if you have any questions or want to schedule your pet to be evaluated for K-Taping!
