Puppies and kittens are babies. Just as you would prepare your home to bring home a newborn, you'll need to do some prepping for your pet. Before they get there, you should choose a room (or partition an area) where he can stay to get used to you and your family. Make it is safe and comfy by ensuring there's no breakable objects, wires to chew, or any other dangers. Have a sleeping area ready or a crate (for dogs) in an accessible place.
Go Shopping
Puppies and kittens require time and effort to care for, so before they come home, take a trip to your local pet store and stock up on items such as:

• Collar and leash

• Food and water bowls
• Toys (for play, chewing, and comfort)
• Comb and brush

• Pads
• Crate (for pups)
Visit the Vet
Once your new friend is home, it's recommended that you make an appointment for a wellness exam. During these visits the vet may track your pet’s growth and development, administer vaccinations, perform exams (and de-worm if needed), and potentially more. The vet may also discuss spaying/neutering, microchipping, and proper nutrition to help get you on the right track.
