Why does my kitten need a series of vaccinations?

When kittens are born and begin nursing, they get antibodies from their mom’s milk.  These antibodies keep the kitten safe from disease up to several months.  This immunity provides protection while the kittens own immune system is immature.  There is no way of predicting how long natural immunity will last for each individual kitten.  This is why a series of vaccinations have been developed for kittens.  This series of vaccinations closes the gap between the dropping natural immunity and keeps kittens safe from disease.  The series of vaccinations recommended by your veterinarian must be completed to guarantee your kittens protection.  This series usually begins at the age of eight weeks and will continue to the age of seventeen weeks.
