Benefits of Pet Laser Therapy with your Winston- Salem Veterinarian

Dog-licking-a-vet

Dogs and cats are truly companion animals. We share homes with them. We share our hearts with them, and in some cases we share our food with them. Unfortunately we also share health issues. One of the hardest parts of caring for a pet is the feeling of helpless in watching them suffer injuries or the effects of aging. All of our staff at Forsyth Veterinary Hospital, including your Winston-Salem Veterinarian has known the frustration, and so after researching the effectiveness of pet laser therapy, we are happy to announce we are now offering it as one of our veterinary services.

What Pet Laser Therapy Entails

Looking at pet laser therapy from the point of view of your cat or dog, the important thing is what is does not involve - no surgery, needles, pills, and no side effects or restrictive recuperation period afterwards. All your pet has to do is lie on one of our examination tables and absorb the benefits of cold laser light. In fact you are welcome to remain at his side throughout the treatment and witness how he relaxes into it.

All laser therapy, also called cold laser therapy, involves is using a flashlight-sized wand to focus a beam of non-thermal infra-red light on the area of discomfort or pain. Infra-red, or near red light exists all around us,  but its longer wavelengths and lower energy on the electromagnetic light spectrum render it  invisible to the human eye. We may not be able to see infra-red, but it has the ability to penetrate skin and stimulate healing from within while instantly soothing pain.

Conditions That Respond to Pet Laser Therapy

Low level laser light stimulates circulation and reduces inflammation at its intended site and is used to promote healing in conditions and ailments that afflict humans and animals alike, including

  • Arthritis
  • Abrasions, Wounds and Bites
  • Fractures
  • Ear Infections
  • Sprains
  • Joint Injuries
  • Post-Surgical Incisions
