Dental Care

Proper dental care is a key component for your pet’s health. Without regular cleaning by the veterinarian at our animal hospital, periodontal disease can develop which leads to infection and potential teeth loss.

Upset Stomach with Vomiting and/or Diarrhea

All pets vomit or have diarrhea occasionally, but when it is constant or lasts more than a day, our vets near Winston Salem need to see him quickly.

A pet with an upset stomach will turn away from food, vomit and have diarrhea.  Typical causes for upset stomachs in pets include stress, eating something toxic, or an underlying condition. Sometimes dogs will self-treat by eating grass, which causes vomiting. If you notice blood in the stool or vomit, it’s important to bring it to the veterinarian.

Urinary Tract Infections/Disease

Urinary tract infections are common in dogs and are most often caused by stones or infection. If you notice frequent urination, straining to urinate, blood in urine, crying out while urination, he probably has a urinary problem and needs to see our vets near Winston-Salem to determine the cause.

Urinary tract infections in cats show many of the same symptoms as in dogs. Cats may also stop using the litter box. Causes include kidney stones, viruses, and diseases such as interstitial cystitis. Your cat needs to see our veterinarian as soon as possible.

Obesity

In the United States, 59 percent of cats and 54 percent of dogs are overweight or obese. An overweight pet is more likely to get heart disease or diabetes. The treatment plan designed by our veterinarian near Winston-Salem will include diet and exercise modifications.

Anal Gland Expression

The anal glands in dogs and cats are located on either side of the anus. Their purpose is to pass on a unique odor to their stools to mark it as theirs. Sometimes the glands become inflamed and cause discomfort to your pet. If your pet scoots around on his rear or constantly licks the area, clogged anal glands may be the reason.
