WE'RE A TEACHING HOSPITAL

As a teaching hospital, we strive to remain up-to-date with the latest in research, diagnosis and treatment. Sharing learned wisdom and nurturing an environment that esteems quality, specialization and experience, we aim to consistently raise the level of patient care.

SUMMARY

Silicon Valley Veterinary Specialists (SVVS)is a multi-specialty referral and 24 hour emergency and critical care hospital. We have state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including MRI, CT, digital radiography, ultrasound, laparoscopy, endoscopy, oxygen cage, and ventilator capabilities. The internship curriculum includes clinical rotations in internal medicine, oncology, neurology, surgery, and emergency and critical care. Interns are expected to have a team based approach to case management, and will participate in a mixture of primary case management, secondary case care, working with specialists, and technical skills training. Interns are typically scheduled five shifts per week with some after-hours shift responsibility, and will rotate services on a 3 to 4 week basis. Didactic teaching includes twice daily case rounds, monthly intern topic presentations, as well as literature reviews and specialist didactic rounds.

Our goal is to provide excellent training for new graduates interested in honing their knowledge base and technical skills for a career in general, emergency, or specialty practice. Our training philosophy includes an emphasis on expanding problem solving and technical skills, exposure to advanced diagnostic procedures and therapeutic techniques, detailed patient care and monitoring, and excellence in owner communication. Interns are a fundamental component of the Silicon Valley Veterinary Specialists team of veterinarians and are treated with fair schedules, hours, and compensation. Interns are responsible for a wide range of tasks including patient monitoring, treatment planning, client communication, attending and participating in all rounds, topic presentations, and procedures. Interns are expected to possess a strong work ethic, compassionate care, attention to detail, professional and positive attitude, and enthusiasm for learning.
