Common Cat Diseases Evaluated & Treated by Our Woodbridge Veterinarian Staff

Whether your pet needs medications, surgery, prescription diets, or other interventions, our Woodbridge veterinarian team can help her if she's dealing with a variety of cat diseases, including:

Feline Diabetes

Diabetes happens when your cat's body is unable to appropriately control blood sugar levels, typically due to an insufficient production or improper use of the hormone insulin. It's often associated with obesity.

Kidney Disease

Kidneys filter blood and remove toxins from the body via the urine. Anything affecting kidney function (including age or accidental poisoning) can make your cat quite ill, sometimes fatally.

Arthritis

Older cats are prone to wear and tear in their joints, which can cause inflammation, swelling, and pain. Your cat may have a hard time moving around.

Heartworm

Heartworm is a parasite (transmitted via mosquitos) that lives in the blood vessels of dogs and more rarely cats, where they can grow and block blood flow the heart, lungs, and other organs. Sadly, the first sign in cats is often sudden collapse and death. Get your pet tested for heartworms regularly and give her monthly protection—a simple pill.

Obesity

Gently run your hands down your cat's sides. You should be able to easily feel her ribs. When you look at her from the top or the side, you should be able to see a clear narrowing at her waist area. If not, she may be struggling with overweight and obesity—which is associated with an increased risk for a variety of other health problems.
