Common Pet Problems

Common Pet Problems

The Katy Area Veterinary Medical Group now has three offices with veterinarians in the Katy area. We offer all kinds of services for animals of all shapes and sizes. We do routine exams as well as urgent care. There are routine health issues, and you should have a yearly examination for your pet just as you would for yourself. You also need veterinarians you can trust when something bad happens and you need emergency pet care. Whether it is routine or emergency we have your pet's well being in mind when you bring them to us.

Common issues for urgent care

  • Vomiting and diarrhea. This one is a bit tricky as a one-time occurrence may not be a matter of concern. If this happens more than once and there are other symptoms, it could require urgent care.
  • Bleeding, with a known or unknown cause should always be taken seriously.
  • Trauma or injuries happen to pets, whether it be an attack by another animal or some other cause, any serious trauma is a reason for emergency pet care. If there is bleeding from a wound, or if you suspect damaged or broken bones, you should get your animal to urgent care as soon as possible.
  • Collapse. If your pet falls down and cannot get up, or suddenly has trouble walking or staying upright, you should get medical attention immediately. There are many potential causes for this condition, and some are serious and life-threatening.
  • Breathing issues. If your pet suddenly seems to have trouble breathing or is making a lot of noise breathing, that is a concern.

Common health issues in general

There are a lot of common health issues pets have that may not need emergency pet care, but still need to see veterinarians.

  • Arthritis in older dogs.
  • Heartworm. Almost all dogs should have heartworm treatments.
  • Fleas and ticks, as well as other pests.
  • Ear infections
  • Skin conditions.
